Celtic really took it to Atletico Madrid in a stirring first half but they couldn't hold on for that elusive victory.
One point at halfway, with two away games to come, makes it very tough. Brendan Rodgers' side are down but not out...

More from Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers... "I thought it was a terrific performance, especially in the first 45 minutes. We were unfortunate with the penalty. I thought it was harsh and it rebounds straight to them.
"Our reaction in the game was superb, having the courage and the bravery to play. They didn't create so much. Their (second) equaliser was fantastic and shows the quality at this level. We showed we can compete with a top level team.
"I don't think you can say they'll fly back to Spain not knowing they've had a tough game.
"We can create opportunities. We can play the game the way we want to play. We're not used to playing at that tempo and a wee bit of fatigue kicks in.
"The performance gives you the confidence at this level, and that was a really good performance, but we just couldn't get the win."

Great European nights at Celtic Park have been drifting into distant history. A 10-year wait for a Champions League group stage win in Glasgow has meant a lot of suffering for supporters at this level.
The first half of this thrilling encounter was up there with some of the most compelling in some time.
That elusive win was very much on the cards at the halfway stage in what was a display of genuine quality against top opposition. Celtic did so may things well and showed they belong here.
There will be disappointment that those levels couldn't be sustained throughout. However, over the course of the campaign, Rodgers' side have shown they are far from out of place despite only having one point to show for their efforts.

Would there been a different outcome had this man stayed on the park?
Forced off through injury very early in the first-half, Reo Hatate was replaced by Paulo Bernardo, who doesn't have the same box-to-box energy and tenacity as the Japanese.
Celtic do look a bit thin when it comes to options from the bench.

If they go to Madrid and play near to how they played in the first half, Celtic can get a result. To sustain that over 90 minutes is the critical part at this level.
They're competing in this group now. To stay in Europe in some form after this group would be a major achievement.

Tonight is the first time Celtic have scored more than once in the Champions League since September 2017.
That was in their 3-0 win away to Anderlecht, which is the last time they tasted victory in the competition.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says his team were "absolutely superb".
"We scored two outstanding goals," he adds on TNT Sports. "We aim to [start fast] in every game. We want to impose our style and mentality.
"We defended very much together, we showed immense courage on the ball."
On bringing on Nat Phillips for Kyogo Furuhashi: "I could see our backline getting stretched because they move the ball really well. It was to help us defend and stretch the line."
On what the result means for the group: "The team and the performance is what I'm focused on and interested in. We've taken our first point, arguably we should have more. But my focus is on the performance and I thought it was outstanding."

Despite scoring twice, Celtic registered just six shots tonight, which is their lowest tally in their three Group E games.
There was only one effort on goal in the second half, with James Forrest sending the ball harmlessly over the top.

I'm very happy, the performance was good. The players found it difficult to maintain the pace and tempo. It was blistering in the first half.
Celtic didn't look like they'd win it, but they didn't look like they'd lose it. It's still very much a young team and a transitional phase in this competition.
Top marks for O'Riley

Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley, who set up Kyogo Furuhashi for the first goal with a sublime pass, is the official player of the match.
Uefa's technical observer panel commented: "He assisted the first goal with a great pass. He played very well as a playmaker in midfield, linking up the play and making penetrating passes behind the opponents' defence. He defended the central area of the pitch with discipline."

Griezmann in the goals again

Antoine Griezmann has been directly involved in 31 goals in 38 appearances for Atletico Madrid in 2023 (19 goals and 12 assists).
He got a bit lucky tonight, with his penalty touched onto the post before the rebound fell at his feet.

Llorente leads Atleti revival

Marcos Llorente's introduction made a big difference as Atletico took a grip on the second half. He was really driving them on, along with Antoine Griezmann, and provided a great cross for Alvaro Morata to level the game.

I don't think Celtic were ever outclassed. It's frustrating that they were playing against 10 men for over 10 minutes and couldn't fire a shot.
Deflation is the sense here. It's an honourable point, but there's disappointment that it wasn't better.
