GW Secondary Application Instructions and Information (2024)

Thank you for your interest in the GW MD Program. Please carefully follow these instructions for timely submission and review of your application, and please take note of the following:

GW does not screen based on your AMCAS application. We inviteallapplicants who submit an AMCAS application to GW to complete our Secondary Application.

Please carefully review ourEligibility Requirements,as receiving a Secondary Application from us does not indicate that an applicant has met our requirements. At the time of this application, if you are not either a US citizen, US permanent resident, DACA recipient, or Canadian citizen, please do not submit a secondary application without first notifying the GW MD Admissions office at medadmit@gwu.edu to determine if you are eligible.

GW does not measure Secondary Application response time when making admissions decisions, so please ensure your application is fully prepared before submitting it.

Your file will be considered complete and ready for reviewONLYafter your AMCAS application is complete and verified and when all letters of recommendation designated inyour AMCAS application are marked as complete. You are welcome to submit your Secondary Application prior to AMCAS verification; however, your file will not be reviewed until your AMCAS application is complete.

Please note you must submit your Secondary Application fee, demonstrate eligibility for one of the fee exceptions, or request a fee waiver before your application is considered complete.Do not pay the fee until your application is ready for submission. Before submitting your Secondary Application, you must pay the fee if you are not qualified for a waiver.See Step 3 below before submitting your application.

You can check your application status or provide an update to your file through the Secondary Application Portal at any time throughout the cycle.

If you submit additional letters of recommendation after your file is complete, they will only be reviewed if your file has not yet been reviewed or when your file is re-reviewed.

If your contact information (address, phone number, and/or e-mail address) changes during the cycle, youMUSTupdate your AMCAS application for us to receive your new information.

Step 1: Set up Secondary Application Portal Account

Visit theSecondary Application Portalto set up your portal account and begin your Secondary Application. You do have the option to save and return later to complete your answers.

Please note:

  • All usersmust follow the“First Time User”instructions to set up an account on their initial visit to the 2024Cycle portal, regardless of previous cycle portal use.
  • Paying the application fee is not required to look at the Secondary Application or to work on the Secondary. Please do not submit the fee until your application is ready for submission. Once you pay the fee, you will return to the Secondary Application to add your Order Number before submitting it.If you are not eligible for a fee waiver, please pay your application fee and add your Order Number to your Secondary Application before submitting your application. If you qualify for a fee waiver, you may submit your Secondary Application without an Order Number. (Please see Step 3 below for the criteria for a waiver)

Step 2: Complete the GW Secondary Application

Please carefully review and answer all questions within the Secondary Application.DO NOT SUBMIT your application until you have paid your application fee or demonstrated eligibility for or received a fee waiver.

Step 3: Pay the Application Fee and Submit Secondary Application

Before Submitting Your Application:

  1. Once you have answered all questions within the Secondary Application, please review our application fee waiver requirements below.
  2. If you are not eligible for a fee waiver, please pay your application fee and add your Order Number to your Secondary Application before submitting your application. If you qualify for a fee waiver, you may submit your Secondary Application without an Order Number.

Fee Waiver Eligibility and Requests:

  • The application fee is not required of applicants who meet one of the following exceptions (which you will select on your Secondary Application itself). There is no place on the payment page to choose a waiver (The payment page is only for those who are not qualified for a waiver.):
    • AMCAS Fee Assistance Program (will be verified with AMCAS)
    • BAMD/BSMD/ES (special programs) Waiver (will be verified with AMCAS)
    • U.S. Military Waiver (active duty within 3 years of application)
    • Current Peace Corps, Americorps, or Teach for America member
  • Any other fee waiver requests must be pre-approved by the Office of Admissions before submitting your Secondary Application, as any payment submitted will not be refunded.

Submitting Payment:

  • If you are not eligible for a fee waiver, please submit a credit card payment for the$140application fee through our securepayment website. Note that this is anon-refundablepayment.
  • After submitting payment, you will receive an e-receipt fromgwmed_appfee@gwu.edu with the subject line “Order Confirmation.” Enter the Order Number from your e-receipt in the fee payment box on your Secondary Application.
  • Keep a record of your e-receipt after payment. If you do not receive an order confirmation e-mail, DO NOT attempt to submit the form again. Instead, please write to us at:medadmit@gwu.eduto inquire.
  • If you believe you are eligible for a fee waiver, check the secondary to see if you qualify, and write tomedadmit@gwu.eduif you have any questions. DO NOT pay the fee before inquiring, as application fees are always non-refundable, and waivers cannot be retroactively applied.
  • Please note that applications with an incorrect or missing payment box code will not be reviewed.

Deadlines

  • August 1, 2023:Early Decision Program deadline – all materials must be submitted.
  • November15, 2023: AMCAS Application must be submitted.
  • December15, 2023:GW Secondary Application, application fee, and all letters of recommendation must be submitted.
