6 Edible Slime Recipes
My kids LOVE slime!!! What does that have to do with our virtual cooking classes for kids though? Well, today we will be making EDIBLE slime! That is right – you can safely eat these non-borox slimes because they don’t use glue or other chemicals that you can’t ingest. In fact, our marshmallow peanut butter slime was turned into a sandwich topping for lunch, as you will see further down in this post! We will also make four different Starburst slimes… and my kids absolute FAVORITE, JELLO slime!!!

How to Make Edible Slime: 6 Ways!!!
The full, detailed recipes for the six edible slimes are below, but a video is really helpful for demonstrating exactly what we did (and to get kids excited about the project!) So let’s get started by watching my daughter’s video about how to make edible slime. Recipe for Edible Slime: Marshmallow & Peanut Butter
I love how this 2-ingredient slime can be made in the microwave and then repurposed into lunch!
Peanut Butter & Marshmallow Slime Ingredients
All you need to make peanut butter and marshmallow slime is:
- handful of marshmallows
- 3 TB peanut butter(orSun Butterif you have nut allergies, like two of my kids!)
How to Make Edible Slime with Marshmallows & Peanut Butter
Place a generous (adult-sized) handful of marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl, and pop it in the microwave for 60 seconds. Take it out and stir. If the marshmallows aren’t melted yet, put them back in for another 30 seconds and stir again. Keep doing this until they are totally melted!
Once your marshmallows are melted, stir in 3 TB of peanut butter.
This photo was our first attempt and the marshmallows were not melted enough, so it didn’t come out great. We then tried it again, warming up the marshmallows until they were COMPLETELY melted, and it was perfection!
The marshmallow nut butter slime was almost like a stretchy silly putty. The kids said it tasted amazing (what’s not to love about marshmallows and Sunflower butter or peanut butter?!?) They begged to cut small pieces and to put it into a sandwich for lunch. And so it was born… the peanut butter and slime sandwich!!!
Ta-da! Lunch is DONE!
Recipe for Edible Starbursts Slime
On Halloween, our Starbursts end up sitting there… untouched… feeling rejected next to the chocolate bars. Now I know what we will do with Starbursts from now on – make slime!
Starburst Slime Ingredients
Another 2-ingredient slime recipe… don’t you love how simple these are?!
- 12-15 Starbursts (separated by color)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
How to Make Edible Slime with Starbursts
Some people have successfully tried this in the microwave. We opted to make it using a double-boiler method, but feel free to experiment with trying it in the microwave (and then drop a comment below or in our Facebook group to let us know how it works for you!)
Unwrap 12-15 of a single color of Starbursts candy, and place them in a glass bowl.
With adult supervision, boil a pot of water and carefully (with oven mitts on!) hold the glass bowl over the boiling water. In a few minutes, it should start to melt. Mix with a spatula and remove it from the heat when it looks like the following photo.
Then, mix in a 1/2 cup of powdered sugar using a spoon. Once it cools down a bit, you can begin kneading it by hand and testing out how stretchy and fun it is!
If the slime starts to harden after a while, just pop it back into the microwave for 15-30 seconds, and it will soften right up!
Our little taste testers said that Starburst slime is the winner in terms of yumminess!!!
Recipe for Edible Jello Slime (That Changes Colors!!!)
While Starbursts slime was the tastiest, my kids said that Jello slime is the most fun to play with! They were fascinated by how it is a combination of both slime and oobleck! You definitely have to try this one out!!!
Jello Slime Ingredients
- half a package of Jello(in your favorite color! Sugar-free is less sticky, but any will work!)
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- water
How to Make Edible Jello Slime (Almost Like Oobleck!!!)
This is the easiest slime to make without needing close adult supervision, because no microwave or stove is used!
Mix together half a cup of corn starch with about half of a Jello package (approximately 0.8 oz of Jello). As you mix the Jello and corn starch together, notice how it is basically a white color.
Slowly add water, a tablespoon as a time, and stir the mixture until it forms a slime. Notice how the color changes almost immediately when the water hits the mixture of Jello and corn starch. My 6 year old triplets thought that was amazing!
You will know you are done when your Jello slime looks something like this.
Look what happens though when she stops squeezing it into a ball shape…

My daughter even tested out stretching it over the top of a mug to see what would happen…
Instead of falling inside the mug, it oozed down the sides! How awesome is this?!?
