Welcome,
There has been a lot of talk lately about Downeast boats in the 22-23 foot range.
Not much mention of the little BHM. Probably should be in the mix.
Whatever boat you get, if you are new to this type .style and construction of boat get a survey as suggested above.
A good surveyor is a wealth of knowledge that you can use to help you understand better what you are getting yourself into.
I use Bernie Feeney at Gulf of Maine Surveyors. Straight shooter that knows his stuff.[/URL]
Regardless of who who use make certain they are familiar with the downeast boat style. There are a few specialists and Bernie is one of them.
There are a lot of idiosyncratic issues the surveyor savvy in keelboats will know to look into.
To your original question there are so many variables it is difficult to answer as you implied.A short not complete list:
22 General Mariner
23 Crowley Beal
19 Seaway
20 Northern Bay
21 (?) Repco
22 Sisu
20 Mitchel CoveMost in this size range are outboards but the occasional inboard is seen or heard about. You do not say if you have a preference.
My assumption is you are looking for used but that is just an assumption. If you want to build new the list shrinks but is still varied.
Th Crowley Beal 23 and the Mitchell Cove 20 molds have both recently found new good homes. Getting a quality builder to lay up a small boat seems difficult in these times of big, beamy higher profit big boats so used may be you best option anyhow.
That having been said you will need to be quick on the draw if you find a good hull at a reasonable price as the better ones go fast whether it is a project or not.
You have found the right place for good advice and we look forward to hearing about you search.
A bit more info on how you use the boat and any criteria you have may help you get more replies.
Good luck and again welcome
Thank you
it is nice to find a group as helpful as this one
sounds like Mr Feeney is someone i need, again thank you for that info
yes i am looking for a used boat
in good shape as i have no time or the knowledge to do a rebuild
i would like a outboard and it will be used for day trips in the bays around Eastport Maine and some fishing
