Obi-WanFinds Out The Truth
"It Can't Be. It Can't Be."
When Yoda and Obi-Wan venture to the Jedi Temple for answers, Obi-Wan uncovers the truth about Anakin and is shaken to his core by what he sees.
Yoda warns him he would only find pain and is exactly right. Obi-Wan's heartbreaking lines would continue, as Yoda tells him he must go and destroy Lord Vader, not being powerful enough to take on the Emperor, and that his brother and apprentice were gone.
The Death Of Liberty
"So This Is How Liberty Dies. With Thunderous Applause."
As the Senate celebrates the formation of the first Galactic Empire under the control of its new Emperor, Padmé watches on in horror, realizing the end of democracy is upon the Galaxy.
In the grand scheme of things, this is a heartbreaking line. Everyone cheered for Sidious at this moment, not realizing how evil he was. A grand manipulation on the part of the incredibly intelligent villain. Padmé, though, could see the flaws in what was happening and looked troubled by what she was witnessing.
Padmé's Last Words
"Obi-Wan... There... Is Good In Him. I Know There Is... Still..."
Many do not buy Padmé dying of heartbreak inRevenge of the Sith, but there is no doubt it is an upsetting moment for fans of the trilogy and of Padmé.
Her final words showcase the love she holds for Anakin even at the end and are words that likely stuck with Obi-Wan all throughout his exile on Tatooine. The belief that anyone can be redeemed and that there is good in the darkest of people, issomethingPadmé passed on to her son and daughter.
Final Goodbye Between Brothers
"Goodbye, Old Friend. May The Force Be With You."
Many great little exchanges and quotes inStar Warsbecome far sadder and more poignant with hindsight, including the final conversation between Obi-Wan and Anakin beforethe latter falls to the dark side.

The conversation sees the two brothers exchange their respect for one another and sees Obi-Wan tell Anakin how proud he is. That final goodbye is perhaps the last moment of happiness Obi-Wan had until well after the Clone Wars ended.
Vader's Realization
"I Couldn't Have. She Was Alive! I Felt Her! She Was Alive! It's Impossible!"
While many criticize the Darth Vader scene inRevenge of the Sithfor his "Nooooo!" the scene is still intensely emotional, with the remnants of Anakin's body gettingtaken over by machinery.
Vader asking about Padmé, not realizing that the reason he became what he didhad died, is seriously affecting. For those fans who loved the character through the prequels andThe Clone Warsespecially, the scene is almost hard to watch.
Anakin's Apology
"I Wasn't Strong Enough To Save You, Mom. I Wasn't Strong Enough. But I Promise I Won't Fail Again."
Throughout the prequel trilogy and the content surrounding it, Anakin Skywalker endures a lot of tragedy, not least of all the death of his mother inAttack Of The Clones.
This line is goodbye from Anakin to his mother, as he buries her on their home planet. Shmi and her death was a massive factor in the downfall of Anakin, infusing him with a desire to protect and save those he loves no matter the cost, which is pretty much what he says here.
Yoda's Admission Of Failure
"Into Exile I Must Go. Failed I Have."
The prequel trilogy is full of fantastic Yoda quotes, as the character imparts wisdom on those around him and inspires fans just as he did in the original trilogy. Of all of them, though, this is by far his saddest.

It is an admission of defeat, it is the acceptance of the knowledge that the Emperor now rules the Galaxy, and for the time being, he can do nothing to stop that. At this moment, Yoda feels he has failed the Galaxy and the Jedi, who he just lost. The fact he then does go into exile on Dagobah makes the quote an even tougher pill to swallow.
Shmi'sIncomplete Last Words
"I... I Love..."
The performance by Pernilla August as Shmi Skywalker is one of the unsung performances of the Skywalker saga and makes her scenes in the trilogy more emotional, including her goodbye to Anakin and this, her death.
The ordeal of Shmi dying is bad enough on its own, especially for Anakin. But dying hurt, in Anakin's arms, and not even getting to finish her final words is truly harrowing. Anakin's actions after the fact were obviously wrong, but it is easy to see why he was so emotional.
Padmé Breaks Down
"You're Breaking My Heart."
The relationship between Padmé and Anakin is often harshly judged by prequel trilogy critics, with it not feeling that natural throughout the films. However, there is no doubting that it is emotional when the two meet for the last time on Mustafar.
The entire moment is much more painful for fans ofThe Clone Wars and those who really invest in the characters. But no matter what, seeing Padmé break down as she pleads with her husband is so saddening, with Anakin already being too far gone, too firmly planted on the dark side to listen to his beloved.
The End Of The Battle Of The Heroes
"You Were My Brother Anakin! I Loved You."
When talking about the saddest moments in theStar Warsfranchise in general, never mind just in the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan's monologue to a burning and defeated Vader on Mustafar is right at the top of the list.
Of all the lines, the most painful to listen to and the most upsetting is when Obi-Wan forgets anything about repressing emotion or attachment and straight-up tells Anakin he loved him. It is a sequence thathelps makeRevenge of the Siththe saddestStar Warsfilm and one that is hard to watch for a lot of fans.
