A health care revenue company says one of its employees looked at nearly two dozen patient records without authorization.Cardon Outreach does contract work for AnMed Health, and has employees on site at the hospital. AnMed said in a release that a Cardon Outreach employee opened 22 patient files without authorization, including her own file.Cardon Outreach fired the employee immediately after learning of the breach, according to the release.“We have no reason to believe the former Cardon Outreach employee did anything but look at the files,” the release said. “We have no reason to believe the information was saved for personal use or passed on to any third party.“At AnMed Health we adhere to federal HIPAA guidelines on patient privacy, not because it’s the law but because we believe that protecting a patient’s private medical information is of the utmost importance. We were pleased that Cardon Outreach took quick and decisive action as soon as this incident was discovered.”Cardon Outreach provides screening and enrollment assistance to patients who may be eligible for Medicaid or other medical assistance programs.
